Help me give my students solar-powered car kits so they can explore energy conversion, forces, and motion through hands-on learning, fostering collaboration, critical thinking, and engagement in STEM concepts.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Diamond's classroom raised $301

My Project
The solar-powered car kits will provide my physics students with a hands-on, inquiry-driven approach to learning about energy conversion, motion, and engineering principles. Instead of simply reading about solar energy and Newton’s laws, students will actively construct, test, and modify their own solar-powered vehicles, reinforcing theoretical concepts through direct experimentation. This experiential learning will help bridge the gap between abstract physics principles and real-world applications, increasing engagement and retention. Additionally, students will develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills as they troubleshoot design flaws and optimize performance, fostering a deeper understanding of sustainable energy technologies.
Goals for This Project
The primary goal of this project is to enhance students' comprehension of key physics concepts, including energy transformation, mechanical forces, and aerodynamics, through collaborative, project-based learning. By building and testing solar-powered cars, students will also gain insight into renewable energy solutions, encouraging environmental awareness and innovative thinking. The project aims to promote teamwork, creativity, and engineering design skills, equipping students with the ability to analyze data, refine their models, and think critically—essential skills for success in STEM fields.
What Makes My Students Special
My students are driven, curious, and eager to explore the practical applications of science beyond textbooks. Many of them come from underrepresented communities in STEM and have limited access to hands-on learning tools that could spark their interest in scientific careers. Despite these challenges, they demonstrate resilience, creativity, and a strong desire to excel when given opportunities to engage with real-world problems. Providing them with solar-powered car kits will not only enrich their learning experience but also empower them with the skills and confidence to pursue futures in science, engineering, and technology.
