Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Cogito ergo Sum" - My students are ambitious and determined leaders. They are passionate and driven for success and my goal is to push them to new heights. We dream big! This year we want to make en electric vehicle that will be solar powered and this project will be the first step of the journey.

Homegrown in the heart of the inner-city in Los Angeles you'll find students who are hungry for success and life.

Many of them face hardships that we take for granted like homelessness, and having a bed to sleep on. But they do not want a hand-out or pity, they want an opportunity. They are driven and passionate for life. Located in the heart of L.A. we are a new and small learning academy, looking to diversify ourselves and set a standard for 21st education. We are in our infancy, but we want to begin a STEM curriculum that will develop over 4 years and take advantage of the opportunities in our field. My hope is that our students will be prepared coming out of high school to take internships in STEM fields.

My Project

My students need 10 eco solar cars to help them understand the power of solar energy. It's our goal to build an electric go-kart and have it powered by solar. Our ultimate goal is to design, create and build an electric solar-powered vehicle. It will be a year-long commitment and the first of its kind for our school. As a result, this project will be a good introduction into the understanding of solar energy, physics of electromagnetism and current. My students will be able to learn about the physics of alternative energy (particularly solar energy) in order to develop an efficient vehicle of the 21st Century.

Long gone are the days in which students demonstrate mastery using paper and pencil.

The ability for students to take part in the building and designing of a solar vehicle would definitely change their lives. This small project will lead the way towards our overall goal. When we complete our solar vehicle the students will have gained a college-ready experience that few and far between ever attain.
