My Project

Learning by doing is what excites students in our school’s Engineering Career Tech Ed program. In our engineering courses, students explore and engage with STEM content through Project-based learning activities and hands-on projects. Exposing our students to solid foundations in engineering as well as to current trends in STEM prepares students for STEM-related college programs and careers and helps them make informed decisions about college and career paths. The materials requested for this project will help us to introduce the exciting field of Soft Robotics into our engineering curriculum through hands-on projects.

A Soft robotics unit will engage students with the latest industry trends as they develop and prototype soft robots that can be used to solve real-world problems.

The soft robotics field is projected to grow four-fold in the next five years. Learning about this broad and vast world of opportunity is a must for students wishing to enter the engineering field. This new unit will explore the application of soft robots in biomedical engineering. The unit will include opportunities for students to design, develop, and prototype soft grippers, hand grippers, a heart-beating assistive device, and any other soft robotics-based device they can imagine and develop. Students will utilize their current knowledge of Computer Aided Design, Electronics, and Mechanical Design, as well as 3D printers, Laser Cutters, and other Makerspace equipment to realize their goals.
