This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are curious, passionate, dedicated learners in the 3rd grade. Our academy's goal is to provide a safe and emotionally secure learning environment. In addition, we focus on real-world skills, problem solving, and how to be a good citizen.
My scholars have a ton of potential; my goal is to help them realize this potential by cultivating academic excellence and recognizing their individual strengths.
They are a creative and innovative group. With the right tools, the sky is truly the limit!
My Project
Winter is my students' favorite time of year. They love running in the snow, building snowmen, making snow angels, and building snow forts. Because our town is close to Lake Michigan, we get lots of lake effect snow (many seasons totaling well over 100 inches!).
I hope to be able to provide a 'winter gear clothing closet' in my classroom with enough gloves, hats, snow pants, and socks for each of my students to be able to borrow them whenever they need them.
Recess during snowy Michigan winters can be fun, with priceless memories to be made. Unfortunately, my students do not have the proper winter gear to be able to play outside comfortably when it gets snowy and temperatures stay well below freezing. This year I was able to provide each of my students with a pair of mittens and a winter hat. Through this project, I hope to provide my students with warm socks for times when their feet get wet in the deep snow. The socks will also help students stay comfortable while waiting at the bus stop or walking to school.
I have also requested storage bins to help organize our winter gear: hats, mittens, snow pants, socks, and other essential items. This will make it easy for students to find exactly what they need.
With this project, my students will have the winter gear they need to stay warm and dry outside this winter, and for many Michigan winters to come.
