My Students

I am an educator in Harlem at a Title One school. My school services students from 3k to 5th grade. My students are eligible for free breakfast and lunch based on their parent's income. The school's neighborhood is becoming more diversified, with various cultures moving to this community. The parents are very connected to the community and they attend numerous PTA meetings.

The students that I will be teaching this fall are curious, eager, and jovial students.

Their curiosity is evident when we are discussing a topic in science about animal migration. There are a lot of questions and wonderings mentioned during our class discussions. Their eagerness to find out more makes me want to keep them motivated to keep asking these hard questions and having the tools to find out the answers on their own.

My Project

As the students begin to learn within a hybrid model, having access to a document camera will be invaluable. Most of my students are visual learners. Being able to see math manipulatives enlarged and projected will support their understanding. Students form a deeper connection while observing various types of learning materials such as excerpts of text, written pieces, or scientific pictures of models and animals. The students will be able to see their finished work displayed and share ideas with their peers while socially distancing.

In order for students to work and learn together safely, their work areas and materials must be properly sanitized.

Therefore, it is crucial to have the proper cleaning materials such as disinfectant spray and Clorox wipes to help prevent the spread of the virus More importantly, having large dry-erase lined paper will enable my students to see me model different topics in both Math and Writing.
