This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our classroom is a safe learning space for ten wonderful elementary aged children with special needs. We strongly value embracing one another's differences and encouraging one another to push ourselves to achieve our best despite our differences. Our school, volunteers, and teachers have done a wonderful job of including our students in extracurricular activities, on the playground, and during after school programs.

My Project

Our classroom revolves around the importance of functioning life skills and preparing our students for the real world. Most of our students struggle with a broad range of conditions such as social skills, speech and appropriate communication with classmates. In between lessons, our students break into stations to work individually as well as collaboratively. Our goal is to enhance our collaborative work by incorporating classic games.

We have picked some board and card games that will inspire our students to think critically, strategize, socialize, take turns and respond appropriately to winning and losing.

We hope to accomplish our goal by using games such as Guess Who that would expose our students to using descriptors and attributes, The Game of Life to introduce realistic situations and experiences, Candyland for matching and identifying color (easier for students who struggle with reading), a LiteBrite for sensory sensitive students, other fun, educational, special-needs-friendly games!
