My Students

My Kindergarten ICT, meaning some students receive special education services, come to school happy and eager to learn! Many of them are learning English for the first time and are very excited to explore our classroom and have fun. We are a Title I school as well, meaning many of our students come from a low income household.

They love having a wide variety of activities to choose from in order to learn.

I love watching how happy they get when they learn something new. To see how proud they are of themselves is such a reward for me.

My Project

Kindergarten is a very important school year for students. Some of my students are attending school for the first time and many are learning English for the first time as well. In order to stay engaged, the children need to have a colorful, print rich environment. Often, non-fiction texts can be difficult for young learners to comprehend; however, Scholastic Magazines provide authentic stories that engage learners of all abilities and fit into our curriculum throughout the year. Some of the topics included are: holidays, weather, animals, plants, etc.

Not only do the students get a physical copy of the magazine but there is also a digital copy for me to project, learning videos, games, and activities as well.

They are able to take the magazines home and share what they learned with their parents. The magazines also include a small easy reader for students to practice reading. Parents in the past have LOVED these as well as the children to practice reading at home.
