Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Hi, I am in Special Education Teacher Support Services and I teach 1st-4th grade at a dual language school in NYC. My students are bilingual students in English and Spanish from low-income communities. I teach students with disabilities who benefit from visuals and hands-on experiences. My wonderful students love engaging with interactive resources. Yet we're facing new challenges with school closures and adapting to distance learning. Getting the right resources to reach them is harder.

My students and I will have a read-aloud time during the school year l so we can bond and share our life experiences and build community.

Through these books, I will be able to teach social justice and empower my students. My students will be able to see themselves in books. They will know that their lives matter that their stories are important and worth telling. These books will give my students voices to empower them, thus creating social change. My students need an outlet to process everything they have gone through these past years and through read-aloud books, our class can have a conversation about social justice and help us process all our trauma.

My Project

We know children must first understand who they are and become aware of different perspectives to learn how to deal with new situations.

The books included will promote positive conversations that will help build classroom community and help inspire a new generation of trail blazers and heroes who will continue build equality and justice in our world.

I am looking forward to having conversations with my students and learning about their experiences I think my students will be able to develop as little humans by listening, reading, and learning about other cultures and people. They are the future of tomorrow!
