My Students

We are reading a short story in our textbook and my student asks me, "why don't I see anyone in this book who looks like me?" The book, "The House on Mango Street" and the six tablets will allow them to grow two reading levels and gain access to online learning resources.

My students are talented, vocal, sensitive, hard working, and utterly hilarious.

However, to minimize my students into five adjectives does not serve them justice. Each one of my students is aware of the systemic issues that plague the community in which they live. As a result, we seek to have bi-weekly discussions known as social justice summits in which my students are given the opportunity to speak candidly about the injustices they have experienced and how to use education as a force to initiate a social and political transformation.

My Project

Technology is a resource that my students experience almost solely during diagnostic exams. However, with your help my students will be able to utilize the tablets to complete meaningful and crucial portions of our curriculum. As of last year, the program known as I-Ready has proved to raise my students' reading levels up to three grades. With integrated technology, my students will be able to complete double the I-Ready lesson plans during differentiated instruction. Therefore, giving us the opportunity to crush our goal of raising two reading levels and reading One Million Words.

With this project, my students will be able to have access to technology which will allow them to meet our goal of raising two reading levels through our technology initiative known as I-Ready.

Furthermore, my students will believe in the power of an advocate. My students will also be given access to a database of books, articles, and educational programs that will give them the opportunity to reach an academic level of success.
