Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students at my school are beautiful children who are eager to learn everyday! The students try give their all in order to achieve their goals. Their excitement for learning is what makes them so special. This diverse population of students have very unique learning styles and academic capabilities.

New York City is home to a diverse culture and a wide range of socioeconomic statuses which are seen throughout the city and in each one of the classrooms.

We have a high percentage of students who receive free or reduced-price lunch. Some of the students struggle socially and emotionally, with few ways or strategies to cope. However, it is amazing how well they can do with the right guidance.

My Project

This professional development will help me gain techniques and practices related to Yoga and Mindfulness. Breathe for Change will help me combine mind-body wellness and social-emotional learning to support students.

Through this course, I will be able to reduce day-to-day stress and increase my ability to understand/integrate mindfulness into my instruction.

I will be able to enhance social-emotional learning outcomes for my students, as well as enhance my capacity to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion. I really think my students will benefit from learning more strategies to increase their focus and regulate their emotions.

Why teach Yoga and Mindfulness to young children?

Sitting at a desk for hours, going back home to finish daily homework assignments, studying for numerous tests can all cause the body and mind to tense up.

There are also social and family challenges, anxiety, bullying and emotional situations that can also take a toll on children.

Yoga, can help children lead a better lifestyle as they grow up.

Here are some of the benefits of including yoga for children in school:
