This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Social Emotional Learning is the most important and critical learning that takes place in my classroom. We strive to help our students develop skills that will help them navigate interactions and relationships with peers and adults. Our students are on the autism spectrum. Most of our kids are nonverbal and do not have the communication skills to express their wants/needs which leads to a great deal of frustration/melt downs.

Our goal is to always give our students the tools they need to understand emotions, build social awareness, d develop coping mechanisms and improve communication.

Our classroom project consists of items that will be incorporated to our sensory/calm down center such as weighted animals, emotion plush toys, sensory tubes, and emotion mirrors. We also would like to get an emotion slider where students can slide the piece to their current emotion. Our calm down/sensory corner is meant to be cozy, comfortable, and safe. Included in our project are two emotion pillow covers. All of these items will help improve our students social emotional skills!
