This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is a Title I charter school with a minority population. Most of our student population comes from a low-income household and 85% receive free or reduced-price lunch. Our school is focused on not only growing our students' academics but also growing their character.
This year my students will be 1st Graders, just beginning their time in formal education ,and I want to make sure they are given a leg up during this especially challenging time.
My Project
With COVID, we are still unsure how our school year will look. I would like to help my students face these struggles, while learning through supplemental literature. As a Title I school, accessibility is one of our largest challenges, and this project aims to help those with limited resources.
My goal is for all students to love reading, relate to a story, and help to become better problem solvers.
Each month will have a different character focus. These are the characteristics we will be learning about: respect, responsibility, honesty, kindness, self-control, perseverance, empathy, cooperation, self-confidence, compassion, gratitude, and manners.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
