Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My 5th graders have persevered through lots of hardships in their lives. Including missing about 2 years schooling due to the pandemic. My current students were in their early elementary years where a lot of social-emotional skills are being taught and learned. Due to the gaps in their education, I've notices some of this development is delayed. Therefore, I have dedicated one period a day to learning about feelings, inclusivity, race, who we are, and how we should treat others. We have read "A Book About Anxiety" and practiced all these different things you can do to self-regulate. We hope to continue this through this selection of books that discuss important topics.

Our goal is to build an understanding of ourselves, each other, and the greater world around us through literature, discussion, and hands-on activities.

My students are already incredibly kind, hardworking, and care so deeply about each other. We are a beautifully diverse classroom of students from a variety of cultures, races, and backgrounds. We are building a love for reading, inclusivity, and social justice.
