Social Emotional Learning On the Go

My Project

My students are pre-K to eighth grade students in an inner-city school on the Southside of Chicago. Our school is high needs and low-income; our student population is diverse, but despite background differences, we have multiple things in common and have been able to develop a supportive community to attain our school mission and vision.

Providing SEL instruction, through technology, to all of my students is essential to creating safe and secure environments that are conducive to learning.

My job as a school counselor requires me to move throughout our two buildings to speak to students. An iPad will allow me the flexibility and convenience to take SEL to my students, as all lessons are not able to be done in the counselor’s office.

Counselors rely on several tools and approaches to address social emotional learning in the most effective and engaging way possible. Having an iPad as a SEL tool will help me work with students to ensure that they are strengthening their social emotional skills while being the best students they can be!

This iPad will allow me to go from our primary building to our intermediate/middle school building, communicate with our English-language learners, let students view SEL videos and lessons, view their academic record and high school applications, and use online calming tools and games. In short, the iPad will allow me to take the counseling office to my students.
