Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Understanding and regulating emotions is a constant struggle with many students on the spectrum. My goal for this project is to help my students become more aware of their feelings and learn how to cope with them. My students become so overstimulated by their emotions at times that it is exhausting and heartbreaking.

My students need a tool to steer them in a more positive and forgiving manner of exploring and accepting the emotions that come their way.

My students are familiar with the Little SPOT videos, and they love them. I would love to include the Little SPOT book collections and the Little SPOT fidget toys in our Calm Down Center. I am sure these items, along with guided practice, will help teach my students how to self-regulate and self-soothe. It will be so comforting to them to understand that they are not alone in the way they feel, that their feelings are valid, and that they can be in control of their own emotions.
