This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I want to bring mindfulness and peace to my dance classroom amidst the uncertainty surrounding my students' daily lives. I am a third year dance teacher in a New York City public high school. This is a Title One school and many of my students are coming from difficult home situations and are often not supported in ways that they should be.

This yoga and SEL teacher training will help me better support my students and equip them with more tools to better cope with the pressures of daily life.

I want to be able to show my students the benefits of yoga and mindfulness practices, because I think this will greatly help them.

I started practicing yoga in high school and I noticed the benefits it had on my physical body as well as my mental health. High school is a crazy time in many people's lives and students are often stressed out from their academics and from their personal lives. There is so much change and drama that happens during high school. Providing students with a coping mechanism, such as yoga and meditation, is something I strive to do.
