This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a High School English teacher for both nineth and eleventh graders. Post-COVID education has caused many students to struggle with their social emotional health. The tactile elements of the calm strips and the stress balls allow them to focus in on the lesson while also having something to focus their anxieties on. Through the use of whiteboards, highlighters, clear bookmarks will be used to create more engaging lessons which are important for the SEL of students.

Many of my students have indicated to me that through art, they are able to express themselves and their emotions more clearly and are able to share that with me as well as others.

During our reading of our novels in the future, I would like them to use the Play Doh to model a scene and then justify it to their classmates which helps them work on their communication skills. Being part of a Title I school, many of my students come from disenfranchised homes where they are unable to buy supplies such as notebooks, pencils, crayons and colored pencils themselves. Many of them come in every day engaged and wanting to learning. They deserve the materials and access to be able to do so.
