Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are in the South Bronx and are in a Title I school. My students are resilient, energetic, kind, and welcoming. They love arts and crafts, math, science experiments, singing, and dancing. They are filled with passion and enthusiasm to learn, no matter what they are going through at home. Most of my students this year had come from other countries and who did not speak English.

What makes them so special is that no matter what they've been through they still manage to come to school with smiles on there faces.

They love to talk and share ideas with anyone who would listen. When they see a classmate crying or get hurt, they go and check in on them. They are compassionate and understanding at such an early age! They are AMAZING!

My Project

These materials will provide our students with a designated area in our classroom with soft seating and soft toys where they can go relax and think. These are materials that will be available to all our students. This will be a quiet area where students will have the opportunity to sit in quiet and think about their feelings. This is important in our classroom since some of our centers can get a little loud when multiple children are talking and playing together. Sometimes what one student might want is some quiet time to sit and relax.

These materials will provide our students with a safe space for them to go where they can calm down when they are feeling big emotions like mad, sad, nervous, or worried.

I have also added some emotion cards, and mirrors which will be used in our lessons as well. At such an early age it is very important that we teach our students about feelings and describing them and sharing them.
