Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are an inclusive group of both general education students and special education students who have a range of needs and learning styles. My students are eager second grade learners who love school! Being in and out of school this past year has really taken a toll on them, and the thought of continuing attending school in a blended/hybrid model this year is really impacting them socially and emotionally.

These amazing students are visual learners, who learn best when they can connect to and relate to exciting lessons, and are motivated by hands-on experiences and tasks that help them develop their creativity and critical thinking skills.

My Project

Children’s social and emotional health affects their overall development and learning, and as a teacher, I know I can help promote SEL health in many ways.

With this project, I am hoping to obtain and create a material-rich environment to stimulate social interactions among my students.

Children who are mentally healthy tend to show greater motivation to learn, have a more positive attitude toward school, and are more eagerly willing to participate in class activities. I want to equip my classroom with materials which promote social awareness, self management, social awareness and relationship skills. This project includes character education books that go along with my schools RULER program, role-playing puppets, sensory tubes, calming corner resources (such as the plus plus blocks, craft trays and emoji keychains), as well as opportunities to help them create things through the use of shrinky dink paper.

With your support my students will have access to much needed resources that will motivate them to do their best by improving their social-emotional, mental health, and self-care skills while we practice distance learning.
