My Students

In my 8th grade classroom, we have a culture of book loving. We love to read and talk about books. And we love when we receive new books for our classroom library.

My students are New Yorkers from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.

They have different visual and performing arts talents that they learn at our school in addition to the academic subjects. Some are in Science and Math Regents classes. Some learn French while others learn Spanish. Some love to read John Greene while others love to read Mark Twain. Some love Eleanor and Park while others love Pride and Prejudice. They are many worlds in one middle school world.

My Project

In book clubs, my 8th graders will investigate a variety of social issues and learn how writers convey meaningful messages. They will read fiction and nonfiction books about slavery in the United States, the Civil Rights Movement, child soldiers in Sierra Leone, child slavery in Nepal, etc.

Donations to this project will help enable and ensure that all students have access to carefully chosen texts that will expose them to important issues in the world.

I have a very limited selection of books and don't have enough copies of individual books to be read by multiple students simultaneously, and receiving these donations will provide the classes with necessary resources. This donation will allow all 99 of my students to get started on book clubs right away without excuses.
