About My Students

Daniela and Cynthia expressed a desire to have home and away soccer jerseys since the girls soccer team is now a PSAL team and they would like to look more professional. They were aware that the coach for the boys PSAL soccer team had done a DonorsChoose.org request last year to get the uniforms for them.

The girls spoke to me, since I coach the boys, to ask how to proceed with creating a request for them to get soccer uniforms. They were very enthusiastic and eagerly chose the uniform style, logo, and print design they wanted from the website I gave them. They gathered the other girls together during lunch and after school in order to have a uniform designed to suit everyone's needs and likes.

The ability to work as a team demonstrated respect and consideration for everyone's ideas. They were able to agree on the jersey, design, shorts, and socks without much difficulty. All expressed flexibility in their ideas and worked together to reach a consensus. They used their math calculation skills in order to determine the best pricing options in order to keep the cost down and increase the likelihood of their project being funded.

In Their Own Words

We would like to start off the fall PSAL soccer season with new jerseys that we have designed ourselves. What you wear affects the way you feel so we believe the new uniforms will increase team morale and excitement about the sport. We will feel good wearing what we ourselves chose as a team.

We will help with inventory of the supplies when they arrive and assignment of numbers for each team member. We will also assist with handing out the uniforms and having each girl sign for her uniform so they have accountability for it. At the end of the season, we will help with the collection of uniforms in order to ensure that we have them for the following season.

We currently do not have official uniforms for our team. We have reversible jerseys that we are using that are uncomfortable and look and feel more like football jerseys. We would like to have a uniform to wear that is comfortable and light, instead of heavy and bulky. In addition, these new uniforms will fit better since we are ordering the correct sizes. Having nice uniforms will make us feel more professional and help to boost the team spirit.
