This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
These middle school student-athletes are from a dual language public school in Boston, MA. Two years ago, they suggested starting a soccer team, and, after finding a league to play in, they are about to embark on their fourth season.
They are an extremely motivated group of player/students.
They happily give up three afternoons a week to practice, play other teams, learn poetry through cheer/chant competitions, and learn about nutrition. These wonderful middle school students learn teamwork, hard work, and belonging as they play soccer.
My Project
My students need water bottles in order to stay hydrated, pinnies in order to easily scrimmage, and sweatshirts to stay warm and look like a team. Additionally, we need a soccer pump. These are all basic needs that most sports teams have from the get go, but we have been playing for two years without them.
It may seem silly, but having matching hoodies is extremely motivating for students.
They can wear them to school on game days and feel like a part of a team. Additionally, it will inspire more students at school to want to be on the team. Please help keep this program going!
