Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our team comes from mostly low-income backgrounds, meaning that they are often forced to do more with less. They do not have access to the same equipment and facilities that many other high school teams have, which means we often practice in the hallways instead of on fields and use coats as goals. Our dedicated players wake up before the sun rises during the season to make it to 6am practices so that we have enough space for all 60 athletes, since after school we share the space with many other teams. Despite all the obstacles we face as a team, our players are very passionate about the game and are each other's biggest fans.

My Project

By obtaining this crucial equipment, such as balls and goals, it will facilitate practices by shortening wait times for a soccer ball or taking turns at shooting drills. We can then focus more time on learning technical and tactical skills and less time waiting in line. It also helps to engage our players so that they stay focused and productive for the entire time, which is particularly crucial as we have limited space and time to practice. This will not only help our players for this season, but it will also improve our program over time as this will allow girls to develop their skills at the lower levels so that they are prepared once they graduate to the varsity level.
