This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work as a PE teacher in the south Bronx, district seven.

This is the poorest district in the country and over 40% of our students come from shelter homes. After introducing a soccer unit a few weeks ago I noticed that a lot of our students had never played soccer before. They quickly took a liking to this amazing sport. My AP wants me to start an after school soccer program. My students come from very rough homes and will surely benefit from any type of after school program, especially soccer.

My Project

In the beginning students will use the soccer balls to practice dribbling skills and ball handling techniques on their own (ex. Toe-taps, rolling the ball with the top and bottom of the foot). We will then move into passing and shooting drills, followed by modified soccer games. During the modified soccer games we will use the portable goals.

Donations for this project will help me keep an active PE class because all students will have their own soccer ball when practicing dribbling and ball handling drills.

This way they don't have to share one soccer ball between 3-5 students. Since I will be starting an after school soccer club, many of my students will have something more to look forward to other than going home to their over crowded shelter homes. I believe soccer will add a lot of joy and happiness to my kids.
