Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work with a targeted group of minority students who are facing behavioral, academic, and/or socio emotional challenges. My goal is to provide support in these areas so that they not only pass their classes and ensure they are able to graduate, but to also build soft skills and character traits that will make them successful out in the real world.

Creating hands on lessons and engaging learning opportunities is essential for student learning.

Not many of my students like science or math, but maybe it's because they haven't had many hands-on opportunities to explore "why" things work the way they do. The Solar Power & Electric Motor kits and candy making kits from this project will encourage curiosity about STEM topics, with a focus on aviation and how planes fly, by creating a model airplane and testing it out. Students will be able to work collaboratively on multiple projects to explore the science behind everyday objects and investigate real life situations. The kits from this project will hopefully spark curiosity and an interest in their learning. The food items will serve as rewards and incentives while working on these activities.
