My Students

What I love about my students is that they are hard workers. They enjoy working with manipulatives and they foster a climate of respect for property and of others. My students are special because they are awesome learners.

My classroom is full of bright students who are ready to learn.

Due to the devastation of Hurricane Harvey, my students are still eager to come to school, learn and thrive. I have 40 students in my class which also includes ESL (English as a Second Language) students. We are in the Third Ward area of Houston, Texas that is near downtown Houston. My students come to me with many challenges at an early age. Most the students are in single family homes, shelters or raised by grandparents. Majority of my students struggle with language and abandonment issues. I strive everyday to give them a safe place to come and learn where they can be happy and healthy children.

Although Hurricane Harvey destroyed a lot of our city, I am so proud that my children come to school ready to learn everyday.

My Project

The flash cards, area and perimeter teaching kit, write and wipe boards and markers, geometric shapes, construction paper, number lines, and other materials requested will aid in student learning as the manipulatives will allow students to experience hands-on mathematics activities. When students have an opportunity to manipulate items, learning is enhanced. When real time situations are presented, with objects to touch and feel, it makes learning more personal and fun for students. By donating to our project, student performance and learning will be enhanced as students are able to problem solve by touch. The use of manipulatives will allow the students to be more engaged and excited about their work. The use of manipulatives is in math is a plus plus for hands-on learning.
