This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My name is Kathleen Cramer. I am a school-based Speech Language-Pathologist, who works with students in grades K-5. My school is a Title I school located in the Bronx, NY. My caseload consists of students with a wide range of disabilities, which include Autism Spectrum Disorders and Speech and Language Delays. 

Therapy sessions consist of, but are not limited to, language, articulation, phonology, and pragmatic skills.

I also work as a Social Development Intervention (SDI) provider through the NYU Nest program. SDI sessions target social-cognitive aspects of communication for autistic students. Students learn social strategies, which help to lay the groundwork for social development in school, enhance access to academic content, and reduce the likelihood of significant behavioral challenges. 

The materials I am looking for will help enhance my students' learning in many ways. I will utilize the materials to improve my students’ understanding of sentence structure and use of descriptive language as well as to improve their ability to follow multi-step directions, ask and answer questions, sequence words and sentences, and improve de-coding and reading comprehension skills. My students will learn how to work together, expand language, take turns, and understand the perspectives of their peers, which will build skills that will be valuable throughout their lives. Donating to my classroom will give my students more opportunities to work on activities, which will help them continue to grow into confident, happy, fulfilled, and self-determined individuals!
