My Students

In September I will be teaching second graders who English is a New Language for in a NYC public school. Every day I teach my scholars the English language as well as the next generation standards. Once scholars reach 2nd grade, they’re often ready to accelerate their learning. That’s because at this point, they’ve adjusted to the more rigorous learning environment and are able to further expand their skills and knowledge in every subject area.

These scholars often need extra support for learning the English language, but always manage to come to school eager to learn!

In 2nd Grade, scholars become a more experienced writer, reader, and mathematician by practicing his/her skills in more complex and comprehensive ways. Second graders also pursue projects that involve research and critical thinking, which might include doing individual or group work and then sharing learned information through writing, speaking, and art.

My Project

My scholars are in dire need of a cork board to display their authentic student work and to participate in our Morning Meeting routine through responsive classroom techniques to foster a responsive classroom. If the cork board is donated to our class, scholars will feel proud of their displayed work and accomplishments.

The cork board will help create a sense of family and community within our classroom environment.

For many of these scholars this will instill a sense of pride within themselves and promote their self-esteem. By displaying their work it will not only help foster creativity and pride in oneself, but it will also provide scholars with opportunities to engage in conversation and provide each other with peer/self-feedback within glows and grows.
