My Students
I work with an amazing group of resilient, funny, and engaging students ranging from Pre-K through 8th grade. Many of my students receive special education services. Most come from a community that is equally as amazing and resilient but struggles with the typical challenges of any underserved neighborhood. Our kids come from mixed family systems of all types, shapes, and sizes.
The ongoing pandemic has been a financial strain for many families, and individual supplies are not always available for students to bring to school.
Supporting our students needs goes beyond learning and has to include their physical and emotional needs as well. Our students are amazing and deserve everything they need to feel good every day!
My Project
No matter how prepared or organized we are, we've all found ourselves in need of hygiene products while away from home. Our students spend so much of their days at school, and the need for these products often presents itself at the most inopportune times. Spills, stains, and extra sweaty days are all too common in school, and being able to quickly turn around and return to class is very important this year.
During this ongoing pandemic, hygiene is more important than ever, and as students return to school, it's just as important to feel fresh and comfortable in order to feel ready to learn.
These materials will be paired with our existing menstrual products in our all gender student restroom to help students feel fresh, comfortable, and in charge of their own hygiene. An assortment of wipes, deodorant, spare leggings for accidents, and lotions will allow students to access materials needed to take care of any issues that might arise. Smaller disposable masks will help our students who don't quite fit into the standard masks to be safe. The plastic set of drawers will help organize the materials and allow students to access them on their own, without potential embarrassment of having to ask.
