Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income, high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

My students are creative, unique and special in their own ways.

They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in foster homes or foster shelters, others come from single parent family and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical".

From the minute they walk in the door of my school I focus on their potential and growth while they are in our building. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.

My Project

This school year we want to focus on celebrating students success as we engage in everyday learning. By having our own digital camera we will be able to document and celebrate our students as they learn new concepts in our very own student created news paper and digital diary. As our students use the camera to take pictures of special moments in their school life they allow other students to recall experiences they have had as they incorporate the science, math, reading skills they are learning throughout the school year. With a digital camera our students will be taking the role of news casters and will search for picture opportunities, to communicate the learning experiences taking place at out school.

Having our own digital camera will help us celebrate success throughout the school year.

Our students need the opportunity to report and record special events that transform their learning throughout the school year. Having a digital camera will ensure that they capture that perfect shot, and will ensure we celebrate who they are and what they do. This is why getting this camera would be so beneficial to improving their learning and school lives.
