This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The District 7 community in the Bronx, is one that faces many challenges, and yet students persevere. Most students participate in free after school programs as they wait for parents to pick them up. Help my students spend their time creatively using technology in art as they participate in our upcoming after school photography initiative.

As an art teacher, I would like to introduce photography as another medium in visual art.

I would like to provide students with special educational opportunities, such as this club, that will highlight photo art history, teach photo composition and layout, teach technical skills in utilizing a point and shoot camera, get creative with polaroids and nurture new tricks and skills with the trust worthy phone-camera.

Photography is important because it allows people to see the world from different perspectives. I want students look through the lens of a camera and study their surroundings through a unique point of view. I want students to engage creatively as they learn about photography as an art form and potential income-earning career path. This donors choose project will serve primarily the after school photography club, but will also be used to help the student lead media team gather their pictures for virtual school assemblies.
