My Students

I teach at a Title I, Trauma Sensitive School, in Wasilla, Alaska. The majority of our kids come from poverty. Our school provides one hundred percent free breakfast and free lunch for our kids. Our kids are eager to learn and love coming to our school because it is a fun and safe learning environment. Our school is positive and we practice positive actions everyday. We provide opportunities for our students who deal with trauma (which is the majority of our kids) to have healthy outlets to work to resolve the issues around the conflict. We have built in a number of clubs and activities for our students to participate in.

One of the favorite things our students enjoy is a reward of using the STEAM tools that we have purchased for our before school STEAM club through a grant.

The STEAM Club Team provides technical assistance and training to other teachers and their students on using the different tools we have. I love watching the joy in the older kids teaching others and the younger kids learning how to use the STEAM tools.

My Project

Thought Snap Circuits, students will be introduced to the basic properties of electricity and electronics. They will learn the fundamentals behind circuitry and how circuits are used in all of the technological devices we use today.

Students will be able to re-create circuits of various functionalities such as shining a light bulb, spinning a motor, or both.

They will be able to manipulate these circuits and create their own circuits using the components provided in the snap circuit kit.

Students in the STEAM Club and my fifth grade classroom will be able to use these when all of their work is complete and/or during STEAM time on Fridays.
