Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Since August of 2022 the CHS Hiking and Nature Club was founded on a simple principle; we want to take students into nature and explore the weather, plants and animals! Help us give our students a variety of snacks during the hikes. Every month we take one hike on the first Saturday. Students are transported from their urban school into nature where they escape from life's many stressors for an afternoon, talk about goals and accomplishments, while taking care of mental and physical health! Kids who hike will learn first aid early on, learn about the nature surrounding them (identifying plants and animals), learn to read maps, and other life skills that they'll carry with them into adulthood.

Our students are all immigrants and refugees and we so often find students feeling most at home when they adventure into nature for an afternoon.
