Most of the students in my school are entitled to and receive free school breakfast and lunch. The students are always very grateful to have these meals provided and are quite proud when they have the opportunity to bring extra cereals, muffins, fruit, carrots pouches, and sandwiches home to supplement their family's food supply. At times, however, the students express disappointment and a feeling of inadequacy when they see more affluent peers bring in deli sandwiches, juice boxes, and snacks instead of eating school lunch.
Help me combat income inequality by supplementing free school lunch with snacks the students will love.
Portions of school food are the same for students of all ages, and fifth graders are often still hungry after they have finished a meal the same size as their kindergarten schoolmate consumed. Help us to eliminate the school lunch stigma and provide the students with extra snacks, as needed, for the many students receiving free school lunch. Thanks so much for your consideration.
