Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are an amazing group of young individuals from a Title I school in Staten Island. Any adult that comes into contact with my class knows how special they are. I have 33 students in my class, 10 of them are Students with Disabilities and 12 of them are Multi-Language Learners. My students come from households that are mostly low income and many of them have difficulties at home due to other circumstances. Many students think of our school as their second home where they are able to come for consistency and stability.

They are the founding class of our school and the entire staff is so incredibly proud of their accomplishments from Kindergarten to now 4th grade.

I have taught the majority of these students in 2nd grade, 3rd grade and now again in 4th grade. I have watched their learning blossom. Although many of these students have been through tough times at home, they are always excited to see their teachers and ready to learn.

My Project

My classroom has a variety of students with different educational needs and interests. However, all of my 33 students can agree that it is difficult to learn when we are feeling hungry! Many of my students are consistently late to school and they skip eating breakfast because of it. We begin school at 8:20 AM and do not eat lunch until 1:00 PM My students require and need to eat a snack in order to focus and sustain motivation during their learning. Before snack, many of the students complain of headaches and stomach pains. However, after they eat a quick snack they are able to focus again and continue with their learning. Many children in my classroom can not afford their own snacks and I bought snacks for the class for the last two years. Our class has grown significantly this year and now with 33 students it is difficult to keep up with purchasing snacks. Please donate to help give my students a quick snack to help them focus on being successful scholars! Thank you!
