My Project

My students are incredible, hardworking 9th graders who attend a Title I school in Queens. Many of them face economic hardships that can impact their ability to focus and succeed in school. As their advisory teacher, I strive to create a welcoming and supportive environment where they feel safe, motivated, and ready to learn.

One of the simplest yet most powerful ways to support students is by ensuring they have access to nutritious snacks.

Hunger can be a major barrier to concentration and engagement, and I want to eliminate that barrier for my students. By providing snacks, I can help them stay energized, focused, and prepared to take on the challenges of the school day.

I am requesting funding for a variety of healthy snacks, such as granola bars, fruit snacks, crackers, and nuts, to keep in my classroom. These snacks will serve as a vital resource for students who may not have eaten breakfast or need an extra boost to get through the day.

Having snacks available in our advisory class will create a more equitable learning environment where students are not distracted by hunger. It will also foster a sense of community and care, showing students that their well-being is valued. This small gesture can have a big impact on their overall academic performance and emotional well-being.
