Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Many of my students come from low-income households, and are often pretty hungry by the end of our class period in music. Some of my students even come to school hungry and it's hard work learning something new, using BOTH sides of your brain when we are playing our instruments let alone all on an empty stomach!

Hunger affects mental clarity, concentration and cognitive function.

Please help make sure that my kids have access to a variety of snacks for breakfast if they arrive late and miss school breakfast, during and after school with a little candy treat every now and then to get them through the day. 98% of my students come from all corners of the globe; Somalia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Tonga, and Samoa, as well as all corners of the United States; the music room is a special place to be where I'm lucky to teach the best kids in the building in my music classes every day, as they choose to work so hard trying to be the best musicians they can be. Thank you in advance for helping me show them that they matter, and that I care about their hunger pains!
