Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Last year I stocked a school-wide pantry in my classroom. Students could email me a request or ask their teacher to come to my classroom. No student was denied and requests to have items for siblings were always approved.

Many students struggle with food insecurity and knowing that snack items are going home with them will help ease their minds and improve their mental and physical health.

Today was the start of our school year and I have already had requests for items for students. Our school prides ourselves in pushing students academically here in the South Bronx but we cannot do that if students are hungry. Food goes hand in hand with community building, mental health and learning.
