Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach high school kids from all around New York City. They come from different boroughs and neighborhoods all trying to get away from violent gangs and trying to focus on their education. They are a great group of kids who are always looking for ways to learn new things about technology. They come to the classroom filled with interest and creative minds. More than a positive attitude and thirst for learning, these kids come to my classroom with empty stomachs and excessive troubles brought about by homelessness and other social issues from their communities. They often ask if I have food, water, and other household items to give them because they are feeling hungry, have not had a decent meal, or need products to keep themselves hygienic. For this reason, I’ve decided to set a project that will hopefully give them the tools to start the school year with great success.

My Project

My students come to school feeling hungry most of the time. They come from the five boroughs and don’t make it to eat breakfast. Lunch is usually free for the most part but still insufficient. Receiving some snacks like Cliff granola bars, microwave pasta, chocolate chip cookies, and chocolate candy will give my students a quick burst of energy to get them going during the school day. The snacks will also help motivate students to work harder in the class room because they have the sustenances that they needed for the day. The students can also bring some of the snacks home to share with their siblings or other family members.
