This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is part of the DPS Community District School, whose vision is to provide instruction and hands-on experiences that meets the educational needs of Exceptional young adults, 18-26 years of age, in achieving pre-vocational and daily living skills that may lead to employment and full inclusion into community life.
Students are eager to participate in the work skills program.
Despite the many challenges, we thrive on their many abilities
My Project
Saying that "School Year 2020 was challenging" is an understatement. My students were thrust into the world of technology. Clever and Microsoft Teams became their new normal. Their first challenge was learning usernames and passwords.
My students learned to operate laptops, navigate online platforms to access online calendars, classes, camera buttons, mute buttons, chat boxes and emails.
During this journey, the students practice reading prices, adding totals and reading labels. As a summer project, the students will read the labels of each snack item and document nutrition facts such as: ounces, serving size, calories, fats, cholesterol, sodium and carbs. The finished assignment will be uploaded and emailed to me. As a reward for their accomplishments, each student will enjoy the yummy snack box provided by our amazing donors.
