This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Providing snacks in the classroom does more than just fuel students physically; it can significantly benefit their mental health as well. Nutritious snacks, particularly those rich in vitamins, minerals, and healthy fats, can enhance cognitive function and help reduce anxiety. For example, snacks with complex carbohydrates, such as whole grains, provide a steady release of glucose, helping prevent energy crashes that lead to irritability and decreased focus. Foods containing omega-3 fatty acids, like nuts and seeds, support brain health, improving memory and reducing symptoms of depression. Additionally, incorporating snacks high in antioxidants, such as fruits, can combat oxidative stress in the brain, contributing to a clearer, more positive mindset.

The act of rewarding students with snacks also boosts mental well-being by reinforcing a sense of achievement and belonging.

This incentive encourages participation and engagement in class, which fosters self-confidence and reduces academic stress. Having access to nourishing snacks can promote a balanced mood, making students feel more grounded and capable of handling the challenges of a rigorous academic environment like Honors/AP Biology. Together, the physical benefits of healthy snacks and the psychological boost of a reward-based system contribute to a classroom culture that supports mental health, focus, and resilience.
