Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach first grade to a class of brilliant girls in New York City. Many of my students are English language learners and children with special needs. Most qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.
All of my students are creative, thoughtful, and eager learners, and much of their knowledge this year has been expressed through their literacy and play.
It has been so exciting to see them fully engaged each day as they learn through collaboration and play with their peers.
I teach 28 bright and beautiful first-graders in a high-needs area of New York. My students and I have been working intensively to get to grade-level proficiency in reading. We set realistic reading goals and are working to make at least one year's growth. They have a goal-setting mindset.
My Project
Help our scholars to grow their brains by filling their tummies! We are requesting snacks and treats to keep them energized for learning all day long!
Some of my students get onto the bus as early as 6 am.
It is a very long day, and they get really hungry. I teach 33 bright and beautiful children in a high-need area of New York. While most of my students receive free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch, some of our families are financially unable to give their children snacks for the day, and my students are often hungry throughout the day.
My students need snacks such as bars, chips, and crackers to keep them energized for learning all day long! These snacks would allow our students to have enough energy to keep on learning throughout the day and grow their brains! If we can make sure they get a snack, they will be able to better focus and really build the fundamental knowledge necessary for them to go onto the next grade and continue to be successful throughout school. I am also asking for fruit snacks and veggie straws.
This project is important because our students have a very long day and need some different yummy snacks to help them stay engaged in learning. If we can give them the smallest thing like an afternoon snack, they will be able to keep up their energy and learn even more in the exhausting afternoons.
I am also asking for slime kits for fun classroom celebrations. My students love slime and these kits will be used any time we have earned a classroom reward.
