This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are so moved by the continued support that the DonorsChoose community gives us. The generosity of others inspires us daily and we are truly blessed.
My students live in a high poverty and high crime neighborhood in Philadelphia.
The basic needs we take for granted are not being met on a daily basis. As if this struggle was not enough to deal with, they are exposed to the reality of crime and drug use that haunts their neighborhood.
Despite all of the adversity, my students want to succeed and to compete on a level playing field with their peers. The needs are great but they are willing to work hard.
My Project
My students often come to school hungry or just need a snack to make it through the school day. The snacks will provide the nourishment they need to get through the day and focus on school work instead of feeling hungry.
Snacks and Sanitizer are basic needs but my students often go without their basic needs being met.
It is hard to imagine being hungry in school but to my students it is a harsh reality.
Snacks and sanitizer go hand in hand. We need hand sanitizer to keep away the germs so we stay healthy and in school.
We encourage students to use sanitizer before snack or lunch but it is hard to keep up with the demand. Fifty five pairs of hands use a lot of hand sanitizer in a week. We need to replenish our reserves.
