Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

At our high school, many students struggle with food insecurity. Having access to food and a comfortable classroom environment will help to ease their minds and improve both their mental and physical health.

Our school prides itself on providing not only for our students' academic needs but also for their mental health and physical well-being.

We provide students and families with access to a school-wide food pantry, but sometimes the need is more immediate. Students can't learn if they're hungry! Having food available to students in the classroom helps to ensure their bellies are full, they're ready to learn, and feel cared for and part of the community.

In addition to still feeling the impact on mental health from the pandemic, recent tension and violence in our neighborhood have also had a large impact on our students' mental health. I am also requesting a pair of bean bag chairs to enhance the "Cozy Corner" in my classroom to provide a comfortable, safe space for students when their stress or anxiety is getting the best of them.
