Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I plan to utilize these snacks to help meet basic student needs, provide some external motivation, and to promote life skills.

Students learn best when they are fed.

It is one of their most basic needs. My students receive free breakfast and most of the students receive free lunch during the school day, but as an educator, I don't know exactly what their home life is like. With our lunch being earlier in the day, the students are craving something nearing our afternoon block. Unfortunately, it is hard to keep up with the cost of purchasing all the snacks each week.

When I have students who tell me they're hungry, I let them pick from our snack box. I also try to use some snacks as a reward for winning review games, or as a positive prize for staying focused. To help with our PBIS engagement, I also "sell" snacks once a week to students using our classroom cash method to teach students how to purchase something and count out their earnings. It also allows them to practice subtraction fluency and teaches students to care for their belongings.

I appreciate all and any help that allows me to obtain these materials for my students. I know my kiddos will greatly appreciate it too. Thank you for your time!
