Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income, high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. My goal is to provide my students with hands-on, real-life learning experiences every day.

My students are creative and thoughtful, they like to sing and dance, and they love lots of positive feedback.

Many of them are being raised in single-parent households and receive free or reduced-price lunches. When they walk through my door I focus on what they are capable of accomplishing, and measure their growth throughout the year. By doing this, I hope to inspire them to achieve even the most ambitious of their goals.

My Project

My students are from low-income families. They are excited about our review sessions after school, but the cafeteria isn't open for them to get snacks after lunch, and they are not allowed to leave our campus and return without a parent escort.

No one can concentrate on learning when their bellies are growling.

After a long day of learning, my students have committed to staying with me after school to prepare for their end-of-year high-stakes science exam, and they need healthy snacks to keep them learning. I'm trying to give them what they need to be successful. Students who are well-cared for are more attentive and able to focus on learning!
