Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Having food and snacks on-hand will give students some much-needed brain food and allow them to continue on to finish their school day which ends at 4:00 pm for most. The majority of the students at Manhattan Academy for Arts and Language (MAAL) are migrant asylum seekers residing within the New York City shelter system. These scholars, who are generally food insecure and ALWAYS hungry while attending school, will definitely appreciate these gifts.

Students leave class and are irritable, angry, and unfocused when they need food.

Having snacks readily available for them will prevent students from leaving class due to being hungry. This will give them a much-needed nutritional pick-me-up.
