My Students

Technology is making learning exciting! My students are interacting with the SMART BOARD in our classroom and LOVING every minute of it...however, the pages taking a solid five minutes to load do not help. Students become bored and behavioral waiting for the interactive pages to load.

My class is made up of twelve 1st and 2nd grade special education students.

My kids are wonderful. They are genuinely hard working and sincere. It is because of them that I love my job and look forward to going to work each and every day. They come into school every morning and greet me with a hug, always questioning what we are going to do for the day. They want to learn, however, they will often get discouraged when they cannot learn something quickly. I am working a lot this year on helping them feel success. They need to feel important and empowered, even at such a young age, so that they will develop a love for learning - even if it isn't always the easiest thing in the world. I do not want them to quit. Our classroom saying if we get something wrong is always, "It's OK. Try Again."

My Project

With this new laptop, we will be able to use our SMART BOARD to it's full potential. With the placement of the SMART BOARD and the location of the electrical/Internet in our classroom, we must run the board from a laptop with wireless Internet. Currently, we are using a "hand-me-down" laptop that is 7 years old. Although it "works," it takes SO LONG for pages to load, documents to open, and interactive software to run properly. The students will often become upset and act out during the minutes we wait for our lessons/activities to come up.

Technology is our future, and this laptop will brighten the future of 12 students this year who look forward to using it and learning from it each and every day.

Over the years to come, it will also help other students in my building see how exciting interactive learning can be. I cannot wait to be able to introduce my kids to the full potential of the SMART BOARD.
