My Students

I have thirty three of the most diverse group of students, whose academic and social development have the widest range I've encountered in my career. As such, they need constant assessment to monitor and document their progress.

My school was late to join other schools that have removed self contained special education classrooms.

This is the first year that we've done so. These first few weeks of school have been an adjustment as both the students and myself adjust to having students with special needs in the regular education room all day. The students with special needs have had to adjust to our routines as well. With this new adjustment, I've made a renewed commitment to ensuring that all students make growth based on their individual needs.

My Project

Our classroom is lucky to be one of the few in the building with a SMARTboard. However, teachers have been issued one laptop for the SMARTboard, assessing students, and individual interventions. The laptop I have was issued primarily, as a means to assess students reading progress using the AIMS Web website. Therefore, when I assess students, I have to take the laptop off of the SMARTboard and lose that resource until assessments are over. Also, when students need to work on Response to Interventions (RTII) I have to take the laptop from the SMAR board then as well. The laptop I am requesting will be used to assess students and provide web based reading and math interventions so that I no longer need to lose the very valuable SMARTboard as a resource.

The project is titled SMARTboard for smart students because the SMAR board is truly an invaluable resource that my students use through out the day.

Whether it is during whole group instruction, small groups, or individual practice, students are constantly using the SMARTboard as a resource for learning. It pains me when I have to take the laptop off of the SMARTboard for assessments and interventions. However, these tasks are essential in monitoring and increasing progress.
