My Students

Have you noticed how tech-savvy kids are these days? My students interact with smartphones, computers, and the Internet on a daily basis at home, and are extremely motivated by technology in the classroom. However, my classroom is too small for a smart board!

My students are in grades 1-5 in the largest public school system in the nation, in the state of New York.

All of my students have been diagnosed with a disability and experience learning challenges in reading, writing and math. They are unique and talented in many ways, and inspire me on a daily basis with their brilliance! I work with them to reteach concepts that they are not able to grasp within their general classrooms, and use a variety of strategies, programs, and technology to help them reach grade level standards and achieve their full potential!

My Project

I am requesting a Toshiba tablet, which is a device similar to an iPad. My classroom is too small for a smartboard, and therefore I am seeking an alternate tool to modernize the technology in my classroom. Right now, I use a whiteboard I made out of showerboard from home depot, as well as a felt board for my instruction. Having the tablet will allow me to bring to life new vocabulary words, illustrate concepts the students are unfamiliar with, and help them build their prior knowledge. In addition, I can use the tablet to differentiate instruction, provide audiobooks for students with dyslexia, and as a research tool for my older elementary school students. The possibilities are endless, and my students will be so motivated by this fabulous learning tool!
